: 7 MOVIE SERIES TO BINGE WATCH DURING QURANTINE :
As we all are running out of shows to watch, here are a few movie series to check out during this time,
BOURNE SERIES :
There are 5 movies in this series and it's adaptation of Robert Ludium's novel. The movie starts with Bourne identity that was released in 2002, followed by Bourne supremacy 2004, Bourne ultimatum 2007. I remember I watched all three of these 9 years back on some late night cable channel.
The plot revolves around Jason Bourne played by Matt Damon, who is a CIA operative suffering from dissociative amnesia, he wakes up after being shot, and don't remember who he is. Thus begins his quest for his identity and truth.
The script of the movie is very engaging, topped with some very deep and complex characters and amazing acting. The movies perfectly depicts how patriotism is used as a weapon to recruit young and intelligent people into their programs, how in the name of national defense some men go a bit too far and justify their acts by calling it necessary. The series is a roller coaster ride, and trust me once you are hooked you'll need more of it.

Bourne Legacy released in 2012, stars Jeremy Renner as the lead. No, they didn't change the cast, they just told another story about an agent running a covert mission. It's not totally related to the first three films, thou there are mentions of Jason Bourne and the programs are also mentioned. It was a more fast paced, action filled movie than the original trilogy.
Bourne was released in 2016, almost after 12 years of the last original film. The film continues with Jason Bourne who is forced to come out of his hiding when circumstances are created.
The Bourne series is one of the most authentic of it's kind. The character develops over time and so does the plot. Thou for some the first part might be a bit slow, give it time, I promise you won't be dissapointed. It's a full package for a thriller/ action lover.
JOHN WICK :
The best ever made, that's how you explain this movie in one sentence. This series has 3 movies so far, John Wick was released in 2014, followed by John Wick: chapter 2 released in 2017 and the last part John Wick : Parabellum was released last year.
John Wick played by Keanu Reeves, is a retired hit man who was once best in the business working for the Russian Mafia. After his wife dies, a puppy arrives at his doorstep, as her last gift. When a group of gangsters kill his dog and stole his car, John is forced to go back into the world which he left, to hunt the people who took away his wife's last gift.
Hands down its the modern day action classic, with an outstanding execution of an amazing plot with pure miraculous choreography of fighting scenes and dark, raw characters of underworld. Memorable fighting sequences, heartfelt moments, brilliant acting by every single individual and Keean Reeves as John Wick is literally the man, the myth, the legend.
The movie tells in depth the art of crafting action, and takes it to a next level.
Thou some might depict it as a violent movie, but trust me it's way more than your average action movie. One of the best ever made.
THE DARK KNIGHT :
The best thing DC ever did, an authentic story line keeping the spark of Comic hero alive through the perfect story execution. The trilogy includes, Batman begins released in 2005, followed by The Dark Knight in 2008 and The Dark Knight Rises in 2012.
Such an elaborative plot, with fear as the beginning, chaos leading to fall and pain rising the hero.
The story begins from the very beginning, where young Bruce witness his parents being murdered and engulfed by the sickening madness taking over Gotham's streets and the very thing his parents are fighting against. The first part unfolds the journey Bruce Wayne played by the extremely talented Christian Bale, will take to become the symbol of justice and comes back to save Gotham from crime and corruption.
The best part about this movie,
1) A story is as great as it's antagonist, and The dark knight series did not shy away from giving us some of the strongest and craziest madman, from the scarecrow to joker to Bane, every single of them played men not afraid of dying, spreading chaos like graffiti.
2) A hero is only as strong as the people who got his back. From Alfred which was amazingly portrayed by Micheal Caine, so much depth was brought to the character, and Mr.Fox played by Morgan Freeman, with all his toys and both of these men's unbreakable faith in Bruce.
This movie series is one of the best of superhero movies, Nolan's direction took the bar so high it's very hard to reach even close to it. You'll love it even if you are not into comics.

EQUALIZER :
This action/thriller series have two movies, the Equalizer 1 released in 2014, followed by Equalizer 2 released in 2018. Denzel Washington as McCall who is working in a hardware store and reads books, is forced back into his old way of living when a young prostitute working for Russia Mafia is badly beaten.
With the first part being far better than the second one, because the latter was predictable and cliche. First had a story line that wasn't bad, had hope, but Denzel in both parts was amazing. The fighting sequences were more real, the acting was good.
A well sorted thriller but it's wasn't very engaging. Still lot better than a lot of others.
SHERLOCK :
Anyone who hasn't watched the series is missing a hell lot of fun in their lives. This series has two movies, with Sherlock Holmes that was released in 2009, and Sherlock Homes : A game of shadows that was released in 2011. Both of these crime mystery movies are top notch with extraordinary acting by the entire cast, perfect story line, unsolvable mystery with logical explanation, and two men deeply invested in solving the puzzle. RDJ's portrayal of Sherlock is phenomenal and Jude as Dr. Watson is exceptional.
The visual appeal of early 19 century England won't disappoint you neither will the plot. The twits and turns will leave you on the edge of your seat, and you'll end the series wanting more. The movies are a full fun filled roller coaster ride, with sentimental moments even inspirational minutes, depicting friendship as honestly as possible and some men who live for the thrill of reveal.
This is the movie that will make your movie night not just fun but memorable. One of the absolute best.
JAMES BOND :
I am mentioning Daniel Craige's 007 series here.
There are 5 movies in this series, Casino Royale that was released in 2006, followed by Quantum of Solace released in 2008, Skyfall in 2012, Spectre in 2015 and No time to die that was to be released this year but due to the Pandemic the release was held.
First of all Daniel Criage as James Bond is every thing you hope for, he is charming, cunning, whole lot darker and better! It gives the series a breath of fresh air and a new start.
The first film have Mads Mikelson as the bad guy, and boy oh boy, Le Chiffre brings the heat you need between a dynamic duo. James embarks on a mission to prevent a mob banker from winning a poker game, accompanying his is Vesper a British Treasury agent. A little thing off about this movie was, the people who don't understand poker might find it hard to concentrate on the game scenes, but let me tell you even if you don't understand that you will get the plot, all the ups and downs.
The second film thou some might complain about the plot not being as strong as the first one, but yet the action and the fast pace of the film won't let you get bored, not for a single moment.

The third film have Javier Bardem as the villain, and does his character gets under your skin? You bet he does. His portrayal of an Ex-agent taking revenge from the MI6 is phenomenal. It was authentic, realistic to the point you feel empathy towards his, his intentions aren't pure but somehow they are justified. It's a thriller from start to end.
The fourth film have Christopher Waltz as the ultimate head of the octopus. The very best thing about the movie for me was him.It's definitely more action than story, thou the first half of the movie is really good and it seems that plot is going somewhere but it quickly fades. But still the action keeps the thrill alive and you get through without yawning.
The Bond series is one of it's own kind, suits and guns, sophistication and charm, revenge and death.
OLYMPUS HAS FALLEN SERIES
So there are three movies in this series led by Gerald Butler, Olympus has fallen that was released in 2013, London has fallen released in 2016 and Angel has fallen that was released last year.
The plot revolves around Mike Banning who is a former secret service agent, in the first movie when the President of USA is kidnapped by Korean terrorists, Banning uses his expertise to save the president and other hostages.
In the second part as the London PM dies, to attend his funeral all the leaders from the world gathers, when a terrorist organisation hits the capital city of England. Banning have to save the president on the foreign soil.
Tn the third installment, Banning is charged with the conspiracy to kill the President, he has to evade the FBI and his own agency to protect the president from the real danger and clear his name.
The quality of content decreases from the first film on wards. The narrative of one brave man having it all to set the things right in the world is the main theme here. Thou the effort to revive the plot failed miserable by the time they released the third installment , they should have stick with one. Anyway its an action paced fast paces film, that will surely help you to kill time.

A great review overall.In my humble opinion,"The Dark Knight" is the greatest ever cinematic piece of art that i have come across during my entire lifetime as an avid movie and tv buff!
ReplyDeleteThe Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, possibly two movies which doesn't only revolve around superhero. These movies shows how a great plot, combined with phenomenal acting and outstanding direction can turn any movie into masterpiece.
