Child Bride

                                 :CHILD MARRIAGE:

                                 exploring the sad reality.

Layers of makeup to conceal away her innocence, dark bold colors to faint her age, heavy jewellery to burden her head down, and the veil to hide away the sweet innocent age of 15! But she is yet not fully aware of what's happening to her. She had seen her elder sisters getting married around the same age. Their less frequent visits to home, each time with more swollen face. She had seen live dying in their eyes. Each time with another child, more blue marks on their bodies. But she is yet unaware of the fact that breathing is tough for them, they are failing in carrying this dead soul around, she doesn't know the hell they live in!

This is the story of those 20,000 who are being illegally married every single day!

Child Marriage violates girl's right to health, education, and opportunity. It exposes them to violence throughout their lives and traps them in a circle of poverty. It restricts them from reaching their full potential. Through it they enter in a black hole which sucks out the happiness from their lives. The responsibilities of entire house is on their small shoulders, their souls are crushed under that heavy weight. In short child marriage is a crime it takes away individuals right of living!

While growing up I had to witness a lot of cases where the girls I used to play with were married off. With each visit to my village the crowd reduced! One by one faces dissapeared. Years after I would see them, the same faces but strangers gazing back! Because those faces were tired from waking up all night with children, they forgot how to laugh, and those eyes hiding so much. But I never had courage to ask them how they were? How was life?
I was shocked when I read that 750 million women and girls today have been married before 18! I couldn’t believe the figure. 750 million dreams. 750 million ambitions. 750 million hopes. 750 million who are not fit enough to raise a new generation. Who are not educated enough. It leaves a mark on you, it tells you how less people are considering you yet!

1 in every 9 is married under 15. Despite the laws against it, the number is increasing day by day. This practice remains widespread, in part because of persistent poverty and gender inequality. And most of the times, in regions where this practice is a way of living, they don't consider it wrong. For them it has been done by their ancestors too! They are just following the footsteps of their forefathers. You can't fight a human right violation, where people are yet not aware of the crime they have committed!
There is an urgent need to change this mindset. That it's okay for them to marry a young child. We need to make people understand that it's not okay. We need to free them from the shackles of their old practices. People need to know that child marriage often pushes girls from school, and it leaves them vulnerable to abuse and early pregnancies, which can cause lasting harm or even death!
Remember for every child bride a future of poverty, exploitation and poor health awaits! Fight against this idea. Give our girls their rights!
